Chapter One              World Cradle of Silk

Huzhou is located in the center of metropolitan area of Yangtze River Delta, China`s most prosperous city agglomeration. With connections to Ningbo-Hangzhou high-speed railway, Xuancheng-Hangzhou railway, national highways of G25,G50 and other three highways, as well as the grand canal and ShenJiaHu river channel, Huzhou is within the two-hour traffic circle to Shanghai,Nanjing ,Suzhou,wuxi,Hangzhou and other major cities.

Huzhou got its name from china`s third largest  freshwater lake-Taihu Located in the fertile south bank of Taihu, with mist surrounding mountains and clear water from natural rivers and ports, Huzhou is an elegant place to live and a paradise for farming . History of Human cultivating in Huzhou can be traced back to the early Paleolithic period. With nature`s blessing and an emphasis on culture and education , this 2300-year old city has always been crowned as China`s granary and the birth place of tea and silk.

Huzhou is one of the most important places of origin of silk,tea and writing brushes, which are viewed as three typical elements of China.Huzhou`s silk history is one of its greatest glories. In ancient times,China is the earliest country that stsrted mulberry planting/silkworm raising and silk producing. Archaeological relics found in Qianshanyang also prove that Huzhou is the earliest place manufacturing silk. In the 1930s,scraps of Un-carbonated silk were found in Qianshanyang historic sites of Lucun.wuxing District ,Huzhou. With the help of C-14 measurement, it was proved that they dated back from about 4200 years ago- world`s silk finally found its birth place in Huzhou.
