  Male farming and female weaving was a basic labor division in the agricultural society of China. Passing down from generation to generation, mulberry planting, silk weaving and agricultural producing has always been important factors concerning a nation1s food and clothes assurance . With an intrinsic advantage in agricultural production, people in Huzhou always abide by the rules of male farming and fishing while women engaging in Silk worm raising, embroidery weaving. This self-sufficient way of production had a steady continuance till the beginning of the 20th century. Huzhou, with its uncountable mulberry trees and numerous lakes and rivers, contributed to China its most crucial agricultural heritage, a mulberry-fish-ponds system, which is still in use today. Huzhou people, intelligent and detail-oriented, became the leader of China`s silk manufacturing. With the well-known Huzhou Zhouli silk, they opened up China`s way to the World Expo.

  The first world expo was held in London England in 1851 , at that time ,Xu Rongcun ,a Huzhou-born business person conducting business in Shanghai, got the news and immediately prepared 12 bundles of Huzhou Silk to send to London. Unexpectedly, the silk won the gold and silver awards in the expo. Afterwards, Huzhou obtained the “Flying Wing Beauty ”license and Xu Rongcun was crowned as the first Chinese to enter the world expo.
