Speech In the International Silk Union

Dear leaders, guests, ladies and gentlemen:

Good morning.  

Today we come together again in the beautiful city of Hangzhou City to participate in the International Silk Union Members Assembly. Firstly, I, on behalf of Chinese Silk Association, would like to offer our warm congratulations to the meeting and our warm welcome and sincere appreciation to all leaders, domestic and overseas experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and all people who care about and support the cocoon silk business of China for a long time.

As we know, the silk is originated from China and is shared by the world. More than 2000 years ago, our ancestors endured great hardships in pioneer work and toiled across the grassland and desert to opened up the overland Silk Road connecting the Asia, Europe and Africa; our ancestors sailed the ocean and fought their way through the wild waves to make the Maritime Silk Road connecting the east and the west. The Silk Road of ancient times opened the new windows of all countries for making friendly contact, and the people on the Silk Roads from generation to generation erected the the east and the west, leaped across the cooperative ties and bridge of peace between different drainage basins and the birthplaces of different civilization and different hubs of religions to write the magnificent epic of mutual respect side by side and make the magnificent painting of mutual development. The One Belt One Road proposal, rooted in the history of the ancient Silk Road, is the great business linking together the ancient and the modern times, the China and the foreign countries; it will not only benefit all people of the countries along the Silk Road, but also take the dreams of all people of all countries in the world for beautiful life and convert them into the bonus of national economic development and welfare. Especially in May this year, the first “One Belt One Road” international cooperation summit forum held successfully in Beijing got the extensive attention and the active support of the international society. As the essence of culture of the Chinese civilization, the silk, representing the features of Chinese culture, showed in succession in 2014 Beijing APEC meeting, 2016 Hangzhou G20 summit meeting, 2017 Beijing “One Belt One Road” international cooperation summit forum and 2017 Xiamen BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit meeting. As the national gift, the silk becomes a beautiful scenery line and drives the cocoon silk industry of China to transform and recover vigorously.

In recent years, the cocoon silk industry of China, by being led and driven by the national strategy of One Belt One Road, and by taking the opportunity of boosting the supply side structural reform, has promoted to improve its quality, synergia, transformation and upgrading, and has made the whole industry maintain good development format. Till now, Chinese cocoon silk industry has basically formed its strategic layout and the featured industrial cluster in the east, middle and west part of China, and is tending to rationalize its regional layout and optimize its structure. As the industry chain tends to become complete, the upper and lower reaches of the cocoon silk industry transfer orderly and assort mutually, the pattern of the cocoon silk industry keeps on remodeling. Meanwhile, the premium cocoon silk bases are continuously consolidating and developing, and the silkworm breeding and mulberry growing industry is tending to develop toward the large-scale and intensified pattern. The one of “reeling silk enterprise + base + farmer” has become the primary operating mode of the silkworm breeding and mulberry growing industry. The scientific research has continuously obtained its breakthrough, the program of factory-based silkworm breeding by artificial diet for all instars has achieved the substantial progress, the jacquard breadth shuttleless loom and other advanced technical equipments have been widely used, and the technical equipments for realizing silk-reeling wastewater zero discharging and thermal energy have been widely popularized. The strategic conception of “taking the garment as the leading industry to drive the terminal product development of silk” has already been progressively realized. The shell fabrics of silk cloth, clothing, ornaments and textile products are getting rid of the stale and bringing forth the fashionable styles, and are expanding towards new fields. The silk standard internationalization has taken important steps. Following the Electronic Test and Inspection Methods for Defects in Raw Silk and Yarn Levelness formulated by China as the international standard, the grading standard for electronic inspection of raw silk is urgently proceeding. The silk culture has been being carried forward and flourished, the “culture + brand” integrated development has began to take shape, the traditional silk technology has been inherited, and the intangible culture protection of silk has achieved its outstanding results. Especially since this year, the domestic and overseas sales of the cocoon silk of China have obtained their outstanding growth, both of them have not only turned the situation in which the silk export of China had declined for years, but also shows a satisfactory look that has not yet seen for years.

All representatives, ladies and gentlemen, this International Silk Union Members Assembly will comprehensively summarize the union works. Following the One Belt One Road international silk summit forum will be held to discuss the future development direction of the world silk industry; it will be a rare meeting for domestic and overseas experts, scholars and enterprisers for exchanging their wisdom. We believe, the meeting, with the mutual efforts of all of us, will achieve plenteous results, and will make new and more contributions to deepen the exchange and cooperation between silk enterprises of all countries in the world and boost the world industry to rejuvenation.
