Report of ISU History Culture Professional Committee

 

1. Review of 2017-2018

1.1 The first meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held in Lyon, France.

On December 1, 2017, the first meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held in Lyon, France. Mr. Li Jilin, chairman of ISU, Mr. Zhao Feng, vice chairman of ISU, director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee and curator of China National Silk Museum, Mr. Claudio Zanier, professor of University of Padova, Ms. Zhong Bingzhang, director of Chengdu Shu Embroidery Museum, Mr. Li Jun, dean of College of Fashion and Design of Donghua Unviersity, Mr. Toshitaka Matsuura, Gunma Prefectural Women’s University of Japan, Ms. Francina Chiara, Silk Museum of Italy of Ratti foundation, Mr. Michele Canepa, former president of International Silk Association and chairman of Taroni SpA, Mr. Robert Urscheler, president of Foundation of Museum "Sust" in Horgen, Switzerland, Ms. Sarttarat Muddin, Queen Silikit Textile Museum, Thailand and some members of the relevant units at home and abroad attended the meeting.

 

 

Mr. Zhao Feng is the director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee. The committee is to practice the purpose of ISU with "communication and cooperation, development with concerted efforts", promoting the mutual understanding and development among the international silk industry in terms of the research and inheritance of history and culture.

1.2 Boosting China National Silk Museum with exhibition and activities.

Opening on May 30, an exhibition entitled A World of Looms: Weaving Technology and Textile Arts in China and Beyond was organized by the China National Silk Museum (NSM) with the support of many scholars and research institutions. It was the first exhibition in China to present the rich cultural heritage of looms and weaving technologies around the world, displaying the various hand looms from Central Asia, West Asia, Southeast Peninsula, Europe, Africa and other places, demonstrating the diverse development and harmony of cultures around the world. At this event, ISU secretariat assisted the museum with the collections of Vietnamese and Cambodian looms.

 

 

On July 14, 2018, China National Silk Museum held the activity of “Khmer Evening”. ISU secretariat was invited to share the lecture of “Cambodian silk industry from the perspective of International Silk Union”, introducing the status quo and development of the Cambodian silk industry on the perspective of ISU investigation.

 

 

1.3 Cooperation between PIOP of Greece and NSM.

On October 19, 2017, the PIOP signed a memorandum of understanding with China National Silk Museum. It has clarified the joint efforts of both sides to promote the cultural exchanges of the Silk Road, the exchange visit of personnel, and the cooperation in silk exhibitions.

Ms. Zhou Yang, director assistant of China National Silk Museum, invited by PIOP of Greece, took a visit to Greece in February 4-8, 2018. Ms. Zhou discussed with Ms. Sophia Z. Staikou, president of PIOP, Mr. Andreas Lapourtas director of Museum Department of PIOP, Mr. Poulilios, mayor of Soufli, and so forth, and agreed to cooperation on exhibition, joint study and resources sharing of cultural heritage, including silk, other textile materials and techniques.

 

 

1.4 Exchange visits and cooperation among members.

In February, 2018, through the contact and coordination of the ISU secretariat and Mr. Zhao Feng, vice chairman of ISU, director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee, curator of China National Silk Museum, Prof. Dagmar Schäfer of Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and also the member of ISU History Culture Professional Committee, visited the ISU member unit---Artisan Angkor Co., Ltd. in Cambodia, having an in-depth study on the design and development of traditional Khmer silk.

On July 14, 2018, China National Silk Museum held the activity of “Khmer Evening”. ISU secretariat assisted to invite Mr. PVA Eang Khoing, silk production director of ISU member unit---Artisan Angkor Co., Ltd. and local weaver to the “Khmer Evening”, having a speech and manufacturing show.

 

 

1.5 The second meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held in Buyeo, Republic of Korea.

In Nov. 6, 2018, the second meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held in Buyeo, Republic of Korea. Mr. Zhao Feng, vice chairman of ISU, director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee, and curator of China National Silk Museum, Mr. Claudio Zanier, professor of University of Padova, Ms. Shen Hui, vice director of Suzhou Silk Museum, Ms. Wang Le, professor of College of Fashion and Design of Donghua Unviersity, Ms. Zhong Bingzhang, director of Chengdu Shu Embroidery Museum and some members of the relevant units at home and abroad attended the meeting.

 

 

2 Plans for 2019

2.1 The third meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee will be held in Russia.

It is decided on the second meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee in Nov.6, 2018 in Buyeo, Republic of Korea, that the third meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee will be held in Russia, 2019.

2.2 Continue to develop new members, promote communication and cooperation.

The committee will continue to adhere the purpose of ISU with "communication and cooperation, development with concerted efforts", maintain the communication with member units, expand exchanges in the world's silk production and consumption countries, absorb and develop new members, especially the silk organizations of the silk production and consumption countries in which the committee has no member units.

2.3 Promote the cooperation progress among the committee.

For the signed strategic cooperation agreement, economic and trade agreement, and cooperation memorandum, the committee will continue to promote cooperation progress, also explore resources and build platforms to strive for more cooperation opportunities. Assisting members such as China National Silk Museum with its project like Biennial of Nature Dyes, Map of Silk, etc.
