"China-Italy Cocoon and Silk Products LCA Exchange Symposium" was Held in Nanchong

On September 21, 2023, in order to promote the green and sustainable development of the international cocoon and silk industry, understand the research progress of silk LCA of Chinese and Italian cocoon and silk products, International Silk Union (ISU) Secretariat organized the "China-Italy Cocoon and Silk Products LCA Exchange Symposium" in Nanchong during the Chinese silk industry visit by Ufficio Italiano Seta(UIS) delegation. Laura Sofia Clerici, president of UIS, general manager of TESEO SpA, Guido Tettamanti, secretary general of UIS, Carola Prini, consultant of company TESSITURA SERICA A.M. TABORELLI SRL, Chiara Cappelletti, senior LCA research expert of INNOVHUB-SSI, Roberto Cozzi, former manager of Clerici Tessuto & C. SpA, Wang Weina, purchasing department manager of ONGETTA SRL, Bian Xing’er, deputy secretary-general of ISU, Xu Jianmei, Chinese cocoon and silk LCA expert, associate professor of the College of Textile and Clothing Engineering of Soochow University, and Pepper, secretary of ISU, attended the meeting. Ma Jing, secretary of ISU, attended the meeting online.

The meeting shared and exchanged views on the current stage of data research and LCA accounting between China and Italy, discussed the feasibility of releasing the research report of "Accounting Requirements and Specifications for Mulberry Cocoon and Silk Product life cycle assessment (LCA) Rules" during the 2023 ISU Members Assembly, and exchanged views on the inaccuracy of cocoon and silk data in Ecoinvent, a database widely used in LCA accounting. The two sides hope to continue to strengthen technical exchanges, play the role of industry platform, conduct in-depth cooperative research, obtain a more accurate and standardized cocoon silk life cycle assessment index, improve the international recognition of research results, and continue to safeguard the common interests of the international silk industry.
