National Silk Center grew out of the Chantiers-Ecoles de Formation Professionnelle(CEFP) created in 1992, as a public vocational training center in Siem Reap. Then CNS was established in 1994, building the center’s training capacity and launching the research and development programmes. It is one of the representatives of the highest quality silk producer in Cambodia, the biggest whole silk industry chain enterprise, The Angkor Silk farm offers free guided tours of the process from the mulberry bushes cultivation to the production of silk fabrics and accessories.

Artisans Angkor was created in 1999 to help young people find work in their home villages, allowing them to practice their crafts while providing them with a vocation. The guide conducted all the process from mulberry growing and silkworm raising, silk reeling and weaving, printing and dyeing design, garment production, product sales, etc. While the gorgeous Cambodia golden silk was the most impressive.

Sericulture is a traditional industry in Cambodia, and has a long history in Cambodia going back to the 13th century. However, after 1930 silk yarn production progressively decreased, and was nearly destroyed during the Khmer Rouge period. Nowadays, more and more local individuals now try to revive this unique production of “Golden Silk”, which is particular to Cambodia. Artisan Angkor also strives to maintain this activities and hand over this skill. Cambodia is attaching importance to the revival of the silk industry, by actively providing training services related to the silk industry, increasing employment opportunities for the poor, and promoting the reduction of poverty.
