 ladies and gentleman:

Good morning.

On behalf of the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company, we are deeply honored to be a founding member of the International Silk Union. We are truly proud to have an opportunity to be part of you.

Thai silk would not have been as well-known as today if Her Majesty Queen Sirikit had not led and supported Sericulture. She taught Thai people in North-Eastern to do Sericulture and weave the silk thread in order to have a job that can earn them money and maintains Thai silk culture which is one of the best products in Thailand.

Mr.Jim Thompson, the founder of  the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company followed her intention keeping this activity with Thai Society. We believe that our company does our best to get the standard quality. No matter how far our technology is or will be, we always maintain the improvement of our handicraft in the manufacturing. Moreover, the company will buy the raw silk and cocoons and support  the hand woven products from the local people.  We do not only play a role in continuing the reputation of our brand, but we also make Thai silk famous for world wide.

The Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company Limited is deeply grateful for the cooperation and assistance given by our Chinese friends over the past many years. The China Research Institute, Jiangsu, has generously transferred to our Company technicians and engineers in-depth knowledge and innovative technology in mulberry production, silkworm breeding, silkworm egg production, cocoon drying, raw silk reeling and yarn production. Thanks to the generosity and friendship of our Chinese friends, our company continues to be very successful in sericulture development in Thailand.

In1987, Mr.Surindr Supasavasdebhandu , Deputy Managing Director led a delegation from our Company to Beijing to meet with Mr.Sun Yanmou, President of China silk Tranding Corporation and other officials. Discussions centered on the possibility of obtaining technical assistance from China for our sericulture project in Thailand. And a six person delegation led by senior official of the China Industry & Commerce Development Corporation arrived in Bangkok led by Mr.Li Guangtian and Mr.Tang Lin. The delegation was taken on an extensive tour of the growing areas in northeast Thailand which included or handweaving factory in Pak Thong Chai.

On December 1987, a contract was signed between the China Silk Tranding Corporation and Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company Limited wherein it was agreed that China would make available to our Company technicians and engineers the necessary technology in all sericulture processes.

In August 1988, Mr.Surindr led a visit to the China Sericultural Research Institute, Jiangsu. The China Sericultural Research Institute agreed that five Jim Thompson Thai Silk employees could be sent to the Institute for intensive training in sericulture for a period of six months. Upon their returns to Thailand, these senior technicians took charge of our company’s mulberry, silkworm egg and cocoon production activities.

The deep and in-depth knowledge that our staff gained from their training at China Sericultural Research Institute made it possible for Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company to quickly advance in our sericulture project in Thailand.

The Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company has been extremely fortunate to be able to benefit greatly from the knowledge and wisdom of our many Chinese friends at The Sericultural Institute, Jiangsu. We are forever thankful for their friendship, generosity and cooperation. We look forward to continuing this close relationship for evermore.

Nowadays, we still have deficient silk from our country for the business, because Thailand has not enough area to do a sericulture and of course not enough workers, so we import some from China that has the best quality silk in the world.

Our company agrees with the idea of the establishment of International Silk Union. We expect this union as a complement for silk business not a competition even though each company is doing the same kind of business. We attend to this preparatory meeting hoping that we will understand the Union's purposes and the procedure of cooperation so that we can support the Union as best as we can.
