Report of International Silk Union（Stage 1 of 2018

 

1. Daily work of ISU secretariat

In this period, ISU secretariat handled a total of 85 emails, including 76 English and 9 Chinese, mainly to mass notices on the ISU upcoming events, contact with related organizers that invite ISU to attend their events, complete the procedure of new members accession, assist ISU vice-chairman unit---China National Silk Museum to collect the ancient hand looms in Southeast Asian countries, etc.

 In the last three months, ISU official communication platforms---the world silk website totally published 134 articles, including 119 Chinese and 15 English. The visits to the website are 2794, in which Chinese version attracts 1949 and English website 845. We-chat public platform published 120 articles, including 21 original reports. The whole reading amount is 105371, the highest amount of single reading is 5275, subscribers increase 778 to total 3512. There are two new content optimization of the platforms. The first is about the world silk products import and export trade data real-time updates in English version; The second is about a new section [Monthly Special Recommendation] lunched in we-chat public platform, began to push from January 2018.

On January 5, 2018, ISU secretariat held a working meeting to report recent work and discuss the 2018 work plan, mainly include the proposal of 2018 ISU Chairman Enlarged Meeting, the construction goals and plans of ISU Professional Committees, participation in the world tour of the silk expo, visiting ISU members at home and supporting ISU Brazilian member to carry out international market research project “Millennials understanding of silk”, etc.

 

 

On January 15, ISU secretariat held a communication meeting with ISU member unit---Meorient International Exhibition, learning about the introduction and proposal of organizing ISU members to participate in the world tour of the silk expo. Both sides initially identified the intention of cooperation.

 

 

2. ISU vice-chairman personnel adjustment and the new members accession

Applied by ISU vice-chairman unit---Italian Silk Office, after the union secretariat preliminary review on the application, discussion on the union office meeting, and approval of the union executive director units, ISU agree to substitute Mr. Giuseppe Bianchi, the former president, with Mr. Stefano Vitali, the current president, as the vice-chairman of ISU.

According to relevant provisions of ISU constitution, after the union secretariat preliminary review on the application, discussion on the union office meeting, and approval of the union executive director units, ISU agree the new 7 units to become the sixth batch of ISU members.

At present, there are 101 member units from 16 countries and regions including China, Italy, France, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, etc. Among them, there are 35 executive director units and 6 vice-chairman units.

3. Promote exchanges and cooperation of the silk industries among countries

(1) ISU chairman was invited to attend the French silk festival.

On November 30 -December 2, 2017, invited by Mr. Xavier LEPINGLE, president of INTERSOIE France and vice-chairman of ISU, Mr. Li Jilin, chairman of ISU, attended the mayor of Lyon welcome dinner and the annual French silk festival. The world silk website and we-chat public release 4 related original reports (in Chinese and English).

During the festival, Mr. Li Jilin and Mr. Xavier LEPINGLE had a deep communication on the future work plan of ISU, mainly include the proposal of 2018 ISU Chairman Enlarged Meeting and participation in the silk fair of French silk festival. Mr. Li also had a meeting with Mr. Michele Canepa, the former president of International Silk Association. Mr. Canepa congratulates the establishment of the union, and expresses that the world silk industry needs such a platform to communicate with each other. Both sides also held a detail discussion on the price rise of raw silk and exchanged their views.

(2) ISU delegation was invited to attend the Tea-Silk Culture Week in Bao Loc, Vietnam. 

On December 24-26, 2017, invited by the People's Committee of Bao Loc City and ISU member unit---Vietnam Sericulture Association(VSA), ISU delegation attended the 7th Da Lat Flower Festival Tea-Silk Culture Week series of activities. There were totally more than 20 members from Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi of China, Japan, Cambodia having a close observation to understand Vietnamese silk industry. The world silk website and we-chat public release 3 related original reports (in Chinese and English).

After the event, Mr. Fei Jianming, secretary-general of ISU, completed a report “Analysis on the Development Prospects of Vietnamese Silk ” and transferred to the People's Committee of Bao Loc City and Vietnam Sericulture Association. The content mainly include the event overview, the Vietnamese silk situation, the development space and key points of Vietnamese silk and the feasibility of foreign investment in Vietnamese silk. Mr. Vu Cao Trung, vice-president of the association and vice-chairman of Viseri, appreciated for the report and considered it would make great help for the development of sericulture and silk industry of Vietnam. They have already published the report on the official website of Vietnam Sericulture Association.

(3) ISU member unit---Matsumura Co., Ltd. visited ISU in Hangzhou.

On December 21, 2017, Mr. Kosho Matsunaga, the managing director of ISU member unit---Matsumura Co., Ltd., made a special trip to visit ISU in Hangzhou, mainly to learn about the ISU events in Hangzhou in October, introduced the business situation, scale and development of his company. As a member of ISU, he promises to attend 2018 ISU Chairman Enlarged Meeting and 2019 ISU Members Assembly, and also actively participates in ISU future activities.

 

 

At the same time, both sides held a detail discussion on the price rise of raw silk and exchanged their views. Mr. Kosho Matsunaga also paid a high attention on the world silk website, particularly the world silk trade data. He also hopes ISU to publish more data of the silk industry which can provide a reference for the formulation of development strategies of ISU member units.

(4) ISU and Cambodia Silk Sector Promotion and Development Commission jointly promote the MoU.

Cambodia Silk Sector Promotion and Development Commission completed a report according to their attendance on ISU events in Hangzhou in October and submitted to Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and ISU for review. After the approval of Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, ISU secretariat published the report on the world silk website and we-chat public in Chinese and English.

On January 19, 2018, ISU secretariat had a meeting with Institute of International Education of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, to discuss the preliminary idea about the joint establishment of silk professional institute in Cambodia.

4. Construction progress of ISU professional committees 

(1) The first meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held smoothly in Lyon.

On December 1, 2017, the first meeting of ISU History Culture Professional Committee was held in Lyon, France. Mr. Li Jilin, chairman of ISU, Mr. Zhao Feng, vice chairman of ISU and curator of China National Silk Museum, and some members of the relevant units at home and abroad attended the meeting.

 

Mr. Zhao Feng is the director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee. The committee is to practice the purpose of ISU with "communication and cooperation, development with concerted efforts", promoting the mutual understanding, communication, cooperation and development among the international silk industry in terms of the research and inheritance of history and culture.

(2) ISU secretariat had a work discussion with Education Research Professional Committee.

According to the construction goals and plans of ISU Professional Committees proposed by Mr. Li Jilin, ISU secretariat had a deep exchange with Ms. Zheng Jinhuan, standing member of Education Research Committee, focusing on how to carry out the work of this committee, and achieved three aspects of work plan. The first is inviting the experts from India and Australia to join the committee; The second is convening the first meeting in October 2018; The third is combining with the relevant work foundation of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and other members’ working units to carry out the work of this committee.
