Present Situations and Directions of Hoi An Silk V

Good afternoon everyone!

I am Tran Thi Chi Mai – Co-Founder of Hoi An Silk Village. On behalf of Mr. Le Thai Vu – Chairman of Hoi An Silk Village, I would like to send to you all the warmest greeting from Vietnam. Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to be here today.

First of all, I would like to present the activities of mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing, and silk weaving in Vietnam. Mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing and silk weaving are a long traditional work in Vietnam. Through thousands of years with many fluctuations, sericulture is still existing and developing. If it had a so strong existence, it is because sericulture has prime characteristics that many other jobs do not have.

The level of investment to mulberry cultivation is not high, the area of mulberry cultivation is achieved 15,000 hectare in Vietnam, until June 2018; produced over 1,500 tons with the qualities mostly are AA and AAA.

Although there are many difficulties existed, Hoi An Silk Village, with our missions and visions, we are never cease to find the solutions for developing the Vietnam silk industry. We cooperate with all the silk villages such as Cơ-Tu brocade, Nha Xa, Ha Dong, Van Phuc Silk Village etc. to gather their unique products and display in Hoi An Silk Village in Hoi An, where is known as the top 10 of the most beautiful destinations of the world. Every years, we held silk festivals in Hoi An Silk Village with the hope of introducing the charming beauty of silk to foreign tourists; particularly Asian – Vietnam Silk Culture 2016, The Cultural of Vietnam Silk & Brocade 2017; Vietnam – Japan Cultural Exchange: Ao Dai & Kimono Fashion Show 2018.

Hoi An used to be a trading port formed in 16 – 17th century attracting the entrepreneurs from Vietnam, China and Japan to settle and do business. 300 years ago, the city connected commercially with the world, from Vietnam to China, Japan, Spain, Portugal and many other countries, making the Maritime Silk Road in 17 – 18th centuries. With the strong historic of silk in Hoi An, with all the help the International Silk Union Members, why do not we make Hoi An to be the place where displays all the silk products from all around the world?
