2019 International Silk Union Members Assembly and Seminar on International Silk Industry Development was Held in Hangzhou, China

In order to practice the purpose of “Communication and Cooperation, Development with Concerted Efforts”, on December 5, 2019, the 2019 International Silk Union(ISU) Members Assembly and Seminar on International Silk Industry Development was held in Hangzhou, China. More than 150 government leaders, representatives of ISU member units, committee members and silk experts from 13 countries and regions including China, Italy, France, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Laos, Myanmar and Hong Kong of China attended the meeting. The meeting introduced the work progress of the ISU since its established in 2015, completed the new ISU organization, discussed the future direction of ISU, summarized the work of professional committees, and discussed the healthy and stable development of the international silk industry, etc.

Han Jie, deputy director-general of Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, Du Huahong, deputy director-general of Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang, Yang Yongyuan, honorary chairman of ISU, honorary chairman of China Silk Association Tang Lin, president of China Silk Association, Zhang Xinmin, vice chairman of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel, Hu Zhengyu, first class inspector of General Office of Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee, Zhang Ming, inspector of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Fei Jianming, secretary-general of ISU.

Deputy director-general Han introduced the culture and industry current situation of Zhejiang silk, and expressed warm welcome to the leaders and guests at home and abrofor coming to Hangzhou. President Tang introduced the Chinese silk decelopment situation, and congratulated to the successful convening of the meeting.

The meeting reviewed and approved the report on the term of office of Chairman Li Jilin of the ISU. After the foundation of ISU, the union actively develop the key silk producing and consuming enterprises and organizations from all over the world and expand the member scale. At present, from the 72 member units in 13 countries and regions when it was founded, expanded to the 123 companies and organizations in 20 countries and regions have joined. among which there are 38 executive director units and 6 vice-chairman units. Especially Italian Silk Office, INTERSOIE France, Vietnam Sericulture Association, Cambodia Silk Sector Promotion and Development Commission, and Brazilian Silk Association, which have spread great impact on hundreds of silk enterprises. What’s more, five professional committees were established including History Culture, Education Research, Technical Innovati, Fashion Design and Trade Manufacturing. Chairman Li summarized the first session of the International Silk Union in terms of "building communication platforms", "discussing industry hotspots", "developing professional research", "expanding communication channels", "establishing working mechanisms" and "doing good preparations". He experssed that under the leadership of the new chairman, the union will further implement the purpose of "Communication and Cooperation, Development with Concerted Efforts", improve the quality of secretariat services, further play the role of the ISU platform, better serve the member units and industry development.

The meeting held a general election of the organization of ISU , and new executive members, chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general was born. After then, specially invited honorary chairmen and honorary secretary-general, appointed the deputy secretary-general, the list is as follows:

Zhang Guoqiang, the newly elected chairman of ISU, thanked the previous council and the member units for their efforts and contributions to the work of the union, and proposed ideas for the direction and priorities of ISU. He expressed that ISU will continue to uphold the purpose of "Communication and Cooperation, Development with Concerted Effortsent", further improve the operating mechanism, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the international silk industry, pool industrial resources, and promote the transformation of new technologies and new products of the professional committees of ISU, and strengthen Liaise with major silk cities, do a good job in propaganda, reporting, promotion and information services for member units, and create a platform for international silk industry to help each other, share resources, and develop together.

Subsequently, the relevant representatives of the Education Research, History Culture, Technical Innovation and Fashion Design Professional Committees of ISU summarized the work had done.

Prof. Chen Wenxing, academician of China Engineering Academy, vice-chairman of ISU, director of ISU Education Research Professional Committee, president of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, introduced the progress of silk research, training of silk professionals, silk conferences and exchanges at home and abroad. He expressed the committee will further deepen cooperation with educational and scientific research institutions and units at home and abroad, and strengthen international exchanges.

Prof. Zhao Feng, vice-chairman of ISU, director of ISU History Culture Professional Committee, Curator of China National Silk Museum, summarized the work of holding international exhibitions, international silk cultural exchanges, build the international silk institute with Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, and he promised to actively continuou implement the follow-up work of commission through the combining various activities of China National Silk Museum.

Guido Tettamanti, secretary-general of Italian Silk Office, giving the speech representing Giuseppe Bianchi, director of ISU Technical Innovation Professional Committee. He introduced his understanding of the "sustainability" of silk. Sustainability is manifested in three aspects: environmental impact, circular economy, and consumer safety. The sustainable development of the silk industry requires joint efforts of the entire industry.

MERMET Frédéric, executive director of INTERSOIE France, giving the speech representing Xavier LEPINGLE, vice-chairman of ISU, director of ISU Fashion Design Professional Committee. He introduced the first meeting of ISU Fashion Design Professional Committee, the participating members and experts had a fruitful discussion on "What is Fashion and Design", pointed out the work direction of Committee, and hoped that the communication channels could be further expanded and Strengthen communication between members in the future.

The Seminar on International Silk Industry Development was also held during the Members Assembly, chaired by Li Qizheng, the elected secretary-general of ISU. Government leaders and silk industry experts from China, Italy, France, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Laos and other countries delivered wonderful speeches, introduced in-depth on the innovative development of the silk industry in various countries, strengthened the exchange and cooperation of international silk industry, promoted the integration development of international silk industry.

The successful holding of 2019 International Silk Union Members Assembly and Seminar on International Silk Industry Development has strengthened the exchange and cooperation of the silk industry in various countries, and will also have great significance for the future development of the international silk industry. As the "connection point" of the international silk industry, the International Silk Union will continue to uphold the purpose of "Communication and Cooperation, Development with Concerted Efforts", provide more opportunities for exchange and cooperation, and continue to expand the silk industry's worldwide influence.
