The Legend of China's Largest Desert
Which desert is China's biggest?
It is the Takla Makan Desert. It is also the second largest shifting sand desert in the world. People have nicknamed it "The Sea of Death". Even though people long for this desert, no one would go without reliable guides or qualified travel gears.
In order to uncover the answer, the filming crew for "The Splendid Oriental Road" set off along the Silk Road, flying from Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, to Hetian, Xinjiang. After passing through Minfeng County, they went through many hardships and faced many dangers. Finally, they approached the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert in their quest to discover the remains of the "Jingjue Guo", also known as Niya, that were left behind over 2000 years ago.
