International Silk Union Investigated the Thai sil

Thailand is one of the world's major producers of silk products. Thai silk with Chinese silk and Indian silk are known as the world's three major silk producer. As early as thousands of years ago, the Thai people had mastered the skills of silkworm breeding and silk weaving, but it was not until the 20th century that under the protection of Phrabat SomdetchPhra chula chom Klaocha-oyuhua, Thai silk was truly famous in the world.

 

On August 1-2, 2018, International Silk Union(ISU) secretariat arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for a two-day investigation, and explored this city with profound silk cultural background.

 

Morning of August 1, ISU secretariat visited the Thai Silk Association, president Surindr Supasavasdebhandu and other directors warmly welcomed us, and held a symposium. President Surindr paid a more attention to this investigation, before we came here, he had made frequent communication through the email with us to discuss the related issues.

 

 

President Surindr communicated with ISU secretary-general Fei Jianming about the cooperation status quo of silk industry between the China and Thailand, he expressed that they want to deepen the further cooperation with China and other countries in silk fabrics. Secretary-general Fei introduced the recent and follow-up works of ISU to the president Surindr. Secretary-general Fei hopes to understand the situation and needs of silk industry through the visits and dialogues, and then actively to promote international cooperation by the extensive resources of ISU.

 

Thai silk is not a product with economic benefit. It is considered as a traditional heritage of Thailand. In the past, Thai silk production was restricted to smaller areas, and mainly concentrated in northeastern of Thailand. The products were mainly digested by local people. Later, with the support of Thai royal family, Thai silk production developed rapidly and gradually expanded throughout the country, and products entered the international market.

The store is decorated in greenand features animal sounds such as elephants and birds which are likely being in nature. The design concept is closed to nature, pays more attention to detail, and advocates environmental sustainability. Jim Thompson has always been leading the design concept of silk products in Thailand and the world. The products are favored by customers from Southeast Asia, Europe and America. It is a well-known international silk brand, and the king of Thai Silk is deserved.

 

 

Behind the great success of Thai silk, it can do not without the support of the royal family. Queen Sirikit is committed to the development of Thai silk for more than 50 years, she is kindly called “the Mother of Thai Silk” by Thai people.

 

On August 2, ISU attended the exhibition of “13th Royal Peacock Logo Upholding the Petition Thai Silk 2018”, sponsored by the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand. It initiated by Queen Sirikit in 2005.

 

Before the exhibition, ISU secretariat was invited to have a discussion and exchange with the representatives of the Department of Sericulture, including the director, deputy director, the head of Administrative Office, the head of Sericulture Research and Development Department, the head of Industrial Planning Department, the head of Silk Standards and Technology Consulting Department, and the head of Finance Department, etc.

 

The director of the Department of Sericulture extended a warm welcome to the ISU secretariat and introduced the structure and duties of Department of Sericulture, and the basic situation of the exhibition. ISU secretary-general Fei Jianming expressed his gratitude to the Department of Sericulture for their warm reception and introduced the structure and purpose of the ISU. Secretary-General Fei expressed his hope to understand the situation of the Thai silk industry and strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.

 

 

The director of the Sericulture Research and Development Department introduced the situation of the sericulture industry in Thailand. The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture has four branches and six sericulture production areas, each area was managed by the administrative center of the district. At present, there are about 8,500 sericulture farmers, 1,000 hectares of mulberry fields, 235 mulberry varieties, and three types of silkworms in Thailand. The silkworms are distributed to farmers by the government. The current average Thai silk price is about 2,000 baht per kilogram.

After the meeting, the representatives watched the traditional silk fashion show of Fashion Northeast from northeast of Thailand, the models were the staff from Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and the clothes were designed by the students from Ubonratchatani University.

 

 

 Accompanied by the representatives of the Department of Sericulture, ISU secretariat visited the exhibition with 10,000 square meters. There are about 200 enterprises, and the decoration was simple and elegant, exhibits mainly are hand-woven silk and dyeing products with Thai characteristics. The Thai royal family and the government also set up the "Royal Peacock" certification mark for the handmade Thai silk with Gold, Silver, Blue and Green 4 grade, promoting the value and market acceptance of traditional Thai silk.

 

Thai silk is a representative of traditional Thai craftsmanship and long-standing culture. In the face of the impact of the world's silk industrialization, the traditional Thai silk has embarked on a path of inheritance and innovation.
